Benefits, Opportunities, and Achievements |
The intern will develop customer-service skills, as s/he will be charged with answering calls regarding registration, payment, meal, and hotel issues as well as manning the high-traffic Help Desk during the event. The intern will attend meetings with DCAC's Conference team through which she will learn the intricacies of non-profit event-planning and will get to know DCAC staff, a benefit that has resulted in full-time employment for three previous Conference interns. Further, because a team of forensic interviewers, licensed therapists, and family advocates all occupy the same building, the intern will be able to interact with front-line professionals in the child abuse field. The intern will benefit from seeing the final product of all of his or her work firsthand through attending the Conference in the last week of the internship. Finally, the intern will gain technical proficiency through working with Cvent, Dropbox, Survey Monkey, Outlook, and Microsoft Excel.
The internship is typically unpaid, but in 2016 DCAC received a grant from the ExxonMobil Community Summer Job Program. This allowed the intern to be paid $3300 over the summer. She was also able to meet fellow non-profit interns in the Dallas area, participate in a service project, networking events, and leadership training. |
